What does Hamptons Garage do?
Hamptons Garage is a custom design and manufacturing company specialising in the fabrication of laser cut products for the residential and commercial market. Our core business is in decorative screening including gates, architectural features, sculptures and custom steelworks.
How do we do it?
Using Solidworks alongside our suite of graphics software we create custom artwork suitable for laser cutting. Ideas come to us either by brief description from the client right the way through to images and architectural drawings. We gather all of the information provided, import it into Solidworks and create sheet metal parts incorporating the artwork. We then render the artwork to give our clients a real life look at what they are to receive and make any revisions until you our client are absolutely satisfied with the piece. The product is then cut and with bent edges or framework added in the fabrication stage. Once QA ensures a quality product has been achieved the piece continue its journey to finishing, be it through powder coating (aluminium) or left to corrode for our Cor-ten (weathering steel) range.
What materials do we use?
In brief we primarily use aluminium, mild steel and Cor-ten products detailed individually below however stainless steels are also becoming a more cost effective option.
Aluminium – commonly used in Grade 5005 although other grades are available on request aluminium is our most commonly used and requested material. Due to its lightweight nature and malleability it is easily cut, bent and welded to produce quality sheet metal parts. It also has the additional benefit of lacking iron therefore non-corrosive. Generally our aluminium products get powder coated as the final finishing process in a wide range of colours.
Mild Steel – available in many grades mild Steel is the cheapest in our material range however is inherently corrosive. It is very easy to fabricate with and the cheapest with respect to consumables. While decent savings are made per sq/m the savings are easily squandered in the finishing costs to protect the material. For example, Mild Steel can cost up to twice as much per sq/m in powder coating but you could of course prime and paint it yourself. We do not galvanise our works unless by special order due to the quality of finish being greatly reduced.
Cor-ten – known as weathering steel it is readily available in Australia and used more and more as an architectural product. Cor-ten is a very popular product as it has a raw beauty to it in developing its own patina (rust) which also acts to protect the product over the years. It is a higher grade than mild steel so has higher strength properties but is easily welded. Its higher tensile strength has the advantage of spanning greater lengths whilst remaining rigid. A couple of downsides to this great product are its lack of availability in thickness other than 3mm or 5mm and that as it rusts initially it leaches and stains whatever is directly below it. We can design around the leaching problem by offsetting the panels from the wall or introducing bends for the water to run off away, eliminating the issue.
How are we different?
Hamptons Garage stands for and believes in changing how the service in Perth is currently delivered. We will be there when we say we will be and will deliver on our promises. We treat each project as a journey for both the client and ourselves and prefer to work in complete collaboration to produce outstanding works of art.
We offer a unique service in that we utilise a stable of artists from around Australia on a freelance basis so we can match the clients design requirements with an artist who specialises in the genre. In doing this we can stay ahead of the pack offering unique designs on a regular basis without our range ever becoming stale or offered across many different suppliers.
Hamptons Garage believes in supporting its community, we strictly use Australian products and where required will only use local suppliers to bring our products to market.
We offer completely custom artworks in steel; every product has been uniquely designed by us for you and is fabricated to suit your requirements exactly.
